FRANCE TO HOST MAIDEN ROXY ASP WOMEN'S WORLD LONGBOARD CHAMPIONSHIP
COOLANGATTA, Australia (June 26, 2006) – Eager to vie for their discipline's first-ever ASP-endorsed world title, female longboarders from across the globe will gather in Biarritz, France, from July 3-9, 2006 for the Roxy ASP Women's World Longboard Championship (WWLC) presented by Evian.
Hailing from every corner of the earth, a field boasting the world's most celebrated longboarding specialists will be whittled from 60 to one during the competition at southwest France's famed beachbreaks.
The winner of the Roxy ASP WWLC will earn US$4,500 of the US$30,000 prize purse and a spot in the history books as the first-ever ASP Women's World Longboard Champion.
"Nearly every known longboarder of any note has entered the Roxy ASP WWLC," ASP Tour Manager Al Hunt said. "The girls will contest a seven-round, 60-woman format, which can be run in three days."
Among the athletes participating will be accomplished longboarder Kassia Meador of California, USA. Meador is just one of many of the Roxy ASP WWLC competitors ecstatic about the inaugural event.
"This event means a lot to me," Meador said. "It's going to be the biggest competition ever organized in the women's longboarding world. I'm sure it will be a magical experience and I'm really looking forward to being part of it."
The Roxy ASP WWLC will run in conjunction with the Roxy Jam Biarritz presented by Evian, a summer surf festival designed to celebrate the female surfing lifestyle. Live music, art exhibitions and philanthropic activities will bolster Biarritz's already contagious surf vibe during the week-long event.
