EVENT #7 ON THE WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION OF SURFING PROFESSIONALS (ASP) WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TOUR
RIP CURL FOOTWEAR TRIALS AND RIPCURL PRO MALIBU PRO AWAIT SWELL
Saturday, 1 October, 2005, Malibu, California, USA - Though the official waiting period for the second annual Rip Curl Malibu Pro starts today, October 1, the contest window runs until October 9 and event directors are anxious to see what a forecasted south hemisphere swell will offer later in the week. Officials are tentatively planning to run the trials on Thursday and the main event on Friday and Saturday.

A press conference & Rip Curl Malibu Pro launch party ushered the event in yesterday. There to formally welcome the girls to Malibu was none other than the original Gidget, Kathy Koehner-Zuckerman. Gidget delighted all in attendance with her spry surf girl demeanor and fond memories of surfing Malibu, or as she calls it 'The Bu.'

The presence of Gidget among the current crop of the world's best women surfers showcased just how strong Malibu's female surfing heritage is. A solid swell for the contest will give the girls a perfect platform to illustrate just how far the sport has come.
