SCINTILLATING SEMIFINAL SET TO RUN AT THE ROXY JAM UK
Thursday, 26 May, 2005 (Perranporth, Cornwall, England): The quarterfinals of the Roxy Jam UK ran this morning and have set the scene for a scintillating semifinal set to start at 3:30pm this afternoon. The talent-packed field of eight top-notch quarterfinalists was whittled down to four in testing two foot surf earlier today.

Australian rookie Rebecca Woods ousted yet another World Championship Tour (WCT) veteran, last year's world title runner-up Rochelle Ballard (HAW), in the first heat of the day. A disappointed Ballard sought consolation from her coach afterward.
Woods, who ascended to eighth on the ASP world ratings after coming third at the Billabong Pro Tahiti, took out current world number three Megan Abubo (HAW) yesterday.
Heat two was a relatively wave starved one in which neither Keala Kennelly (HAW) nor reigning world champ Sofia Mulanovich (PER) scored over a 5.00. Mulanovich, who took the lead halfway through the heat, managed to hold it and advance to the semis where she'll meet Woods.

Quarterfinal number three was won by Chelsea Georgeson (AUS). Jacqueline Silva (BRA) was unable to repeat the dying-second success she enjoyed in round three against Samantha Cornish (AUS) yesterday. Silva finished equal fifth.
Layne Beachley (AUS) looked strong in quarterfinal four against Trudy Todd. Beachley's patience and superior wave selection skills captured the former world champ the highest heat total of the round. Beachley meets Georgeson in semifinal number two.

Chelsea Georgeson (Aus) powered to the semifinals where she will face 6 times ASP world champ Layne Beachley.

Each of the four potential final scenarios are sure to entertain. If Woods causes an upset and beats Mulanovich, the rookie will make her first WCT final ever. Mulanovich vs. Beachley would mark the second final the world champions have surfed this year (the first being the Roxy Pro in Fiji which was won by Mulanovich) and if Georgeson beats Beachley to advance, the two top ASP rated surfers will battle it out in a budding world title race.
