Wednesday, September 29, 2004 (Seignosse, France) The Quiksilver Pro in France continued this morning with Australian Nathan Hedge winning the opening third round heat. The Foster's men's ASP World Championship Tournament (WCT) was then placed on hold due to dramatic tidal changes, before surfers and organizers opted to postpone any further competition until more favorable conditions arrive.

Hollow 3ft (1m) righthanders were breaking just south of 'La Guardians' site, at 'Les Culs Nus' (Hossegor's nude beach). As the tide continued to drain out however, waves began to closeout and shift to different sand banks along the beach, prompting further evaluation and the ultimate postponement.

Hedge, the current ratings #5, once again read conditions well to pick off a couple of good righthanders and advance past fellow Australian Luke Hitchings (Bronte). The goofy footer created a commanding lead, while 'Hitcho' waited for waves not really on offer. He finally caught a good left towards the end, but still required another ride worth 8.73-points at completion.

Nathan Hedge (Aus) was the first surfer to go through to round four after defeating Luke Hitchings (Aus).

"I got an early surf in this morning, about an hour before the competition started and knew conditions were changing," explained Hedge. "I made sure to get my waves in the first 10-minutes, since I knew I couldn't count on them being in the same spot later. The tide went out so quickly and made such a change, it's like nothing we've ever seen. You've just got to be flexible and have lots of different boards ready."

When competition continues, 2000 world champion Sunny Garcia (HAW) faces Tom Whitaker (AUS) in the first heat. All other upcoming heats are listed below.
