Boost Mobile Pro of Surf presented by Quiksilver (September 10-21) www.boostmobilepro.com

Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) www.aspworldtour.com 2004 Foster's Men's World Championship Tour (WCT)

TO BE HELD SEPTEMBER 15, 16, 17, 18 and 20

Thursday, September 9, 2004 (ASP, Int'l) After consulting with Surfline, the world's premier surf forecasters, and reviewing various swell and buoy readings, contest director Mike Parsons has announced that the 2004 Boost Mobile Pro of Surf Presented by Quiksilver will be held September 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th and 20th. The event will take place at the famed Lower Trestles near San Clemente, CA.

"As the Boost Mobile Pro is held in a California State Parks area, state regulations require that Lowers beach be available for public use, therefore unlike other WCT events the actual running dates need to be established in advance," said Boost Mobile's Mark Fewell. "Forecasting conditions so far forward is a challenge and nature can always throw a curve ball, but Surfline and Mike have done a great job of selecting competition dates the last two years in a row. We are confident that the Pro will once again have great surf with at least one decent south swell, plus the tropics are still going crazy so there is a possibility of a hurricane swell."

The top 45 professional surfers in the World, plus three wildcard contestants will compete in the 2004 Boost Mobile Pro. The wildcards include Hawaii's Jamie O'Brien, plus Californians Rob Machado and Dane Reynolds.

Injury replacements for Shea Lopez (USA) and Mick Fanning (AUS) will be the two surfers who narrowly missed out on qualification at the end of last season; Australians Luke Hitchings and Troy Brooks.

The Boost Mobile Pro will also feature three specialty heats. Subject to necessary changes due to swell changes, the Fosters Expression Session will be held on Friday, Sept. 17, and the Snapple Best Damn Airshow, and Quiksilver Surf Shop Challenge championships on Saturday, Sept. 18. Snapple, the leading alternative beverage brand, will host the 45-minute benefit session, which will highlight the most innovative and progressive surfing in an exciting, winner take all format. The Snapple Best Damn Airshow will benefit the Friends of Jason Bogle cause.

The Championships of the Quiksilver Surf Shop Challenge presented by SURFER Magazine, will feature a 40-minute tag team final. Finalists from Laguna Surf & Sport (Laguna Beach, CA), Quiet Flight (Cocoa Beach, FL), Revolution Surf Shop (Camarillo, CA) Whalebone (Nags Head, NC) will have the opportunity to surf an empty line-up of Lowers, and compete for a $10,000 winner-take-all prize purse, a full-page color ad in SURFER Magazine, a year's supply of Snapple and most importantly, bragging rights. Southern California has witnessed a busy month of surf competition with the US Open and the X- Games, only to now climax with the main event at the Boost Mobile Pro at Lower Trestles. As the only WCT event in North America, the third annual Boost Mobile Pro of Surf Presented by Quiksilver is the seventh leg of the 12-round World Championship Tour, following events in equally pre-eminent wave locations in Australia on the Gold Coast and Bells Beach, the treacherous Teahupoo in Tahiti and Tavarua in Fiji, followed by Jeffrey's Bay in South Africa and Chiba in Japan, just last week.
