Massive Surf Forces Postponement

Wednesday, December 15, 2004 (Pipeline, Hawaii) Due to massive surf the Rip Curl Pro Pipeline Masters has been postponed today. This year's final Foster's ASP World Championship Tournament (WCT) will meet again tomorrow morning for a possible continuation with round two heats, if conditions subside.

Trent Munro
Aussie Trent Munro will face Shane Dorian, Joel Parkinson and former Pipe Masters champ Bruce Irons in the first heat of round 2.
Triple Crown of Surfing executive director Randy Rarick left the following message on the event hotline number: "Due to excessive closeouts there will be no competition today. Surf is way too big at Pipeline. We'll try again tomorrow."

Gigantic waves in the 20-30 ft (7-10m) plus range have arrived on the north shore of Oahu, creating massive walls of whitewash across most lineups. Traffic jams stretched for miles as early as 7am, with everyone eager to claim a vantage point to watch this historic day of surf unfold.
Andy Irons
2003 Pipe Masters champ Andy Irons continued his hopes of defending his title by advancing to round three.

Meanwhile, a handful of Rip Curl Pro Pipeline Master competitors will turn their attention to another event today, as the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational has been called on! While most venues are unrideable, Waimea Bay will be the focus of the surfing world as 24 invited surfers attempt to do what most would never consider . paddle into the mountainous surf. The event has only taken place a total of six times in the past 19 years, and has never run as early as December.

A detailed release will be forwarded this afternoon.

rebuilding the tower
Triple Crown staff were up early this morning rebuilding the judges tower. Yesterday's swell once again illustrated Mother Nature's force and destroyed the two-level construction.
