Competition Postponed Due To Stormy Conditions

Thursday, December 9, 2004 (Pipeline, Hawaii) The Rip Curl Pro Pipeline Masters was today postponed due to stormy conditions. Round one of the Foster's ASP World Championship Tournament (WCT) will meet again tomorrow morning, with organizers able to utilize the best surf available before December 20. Only three days are required to complete the US$260,000 event.

Kelly Slater
The greatest surfer of all time, Kelly Slater, jammed with his childhood hero and mentor, Tom Curren and gifted North Shore shaper Pat Rawson at the Rip Curl / Lifeguard fund raiser. Jack Johnson would have been proud of the trio's efforts!
Solid 8-10 ft (3m) conditions continue on the North Shore, with even larger waves predicted from a northerly direction this afternoon. Unfortunately, strong northerly winds are already making a mess of the surf and don't appear to be letting up any throughout the day.

When round one commences, yesterday's Rip Curl Code STL Trials winner Mikey Bruneau takes on fellow Hawaiian and newly crowned three-time world champion Andy Irons, as well as Floridian Cory Lopez.

Trials runner-up Bruno Santos (BRA) faces current ratings runner-up Joel Parkinson (AUS) and recent Vans Hawaiian Pro winner Sunny Garcia (HAW).

Tahitian dancing
The Tahitian dancing was one of the highlights of the successful Rip Curl / Lifeguard evening at Waimea Falls.
Six-time world champion and five-time Pipeline Master Kelly Slater (FL, USA) is against Paulo Moura (BRA) and local Hawaiian wildcard Pancho Sullivan.

All upcoming clashes are listed below. Winners will advance directly to round three, while second and third place getters are delegated to the 'losers' second round.

Tom Curren
Former ASP world champion Tom Curren played an acoustic session at the Rip Curl / Lifeguard Party much to the delight of hundreds of fans and fellow surfers.
The Rip Curl Pro Pipeline Masters is part of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing. Contest action can be viewed by LIVE webcast on www.ripcurl.com & www.aspworldtour.com or at www.triplecrownofsurfing.com from December 8 through 20.

The Vans Triple Crown of Surfing is made possible through the support of a partnership of the world's leading brands and media companies including: Ford Trucks, G-Shock, O'Neill, Rip Curl, Surfing Magazine, Oahu's Turtle Bay Resort, The Honolulu Advertiser and Fox Sports Net.
